E Surrey Regt Officer's HP

A nice, silver and gilt, helmet plate for an officer of The East Surrey Regiment with three lug fastenings (north, east and west - opened up). As KK244.

Note: This is an 'official' conversion from a Victorian plate, which was often carried out after the succession of King Edward VII as officer's paid for their own insignia.

Note: Kipling & King, Head-dress Badges of The British Army Volume 1, states the title scroll read Regt until 1891, when it changed to read Regiment, before reverting to Regt in 1904.

The original pins to the rear have been replaced by small nails.
