Bristol RE (Vols) HP

A rare, white metal, helmet plate for The 2nd Gloster (Bristol) Engineer Volunteers with two lug fastenings (east and west). As KK878 or Brinson H12.

Note: Daniel Brinson, in his book on Military Insignia of Gloucestershire, dates this plate to circa 1879-1908 (despite the Victorian crown).

However, Head-dress Badges of The British Army Volume 1, by Arthur Kipling & Hugh King, shows this plate with the King's crown.
